In Food Crisis, Because Complex
The current global food crisis may occur in the short term because of the different indicators seen as the most obvious is the rising prices and declining global food production.
This was forwarded by the chairman of Harmony of the Association of Indonesian farmers Subianto (HKTI) Prabowo in the minds of subjects.
“The cause of the current food crisis are complex compared to the crisis of 2008. The cause of the food crisis this time is a combination of different things, both in terms of consumption and production,” says Prabowo.
Prabowo said he was on the side of consumption, demand for food due to population growth and use of food crops for fuel. Although the production side of what is the condition of the damaged areas and also the issue of global climate.
“Entering 2011 by the FAO, the world’s rising food prices, said since late 2010. Influenced by the FAO Food Price Index in December 2010, which reached record levels reached 214.7,” Prabowo said.
In addition, the FAO and the OECD predicts world food production in 2007-2016 is at 5%. Rising global food prices by the reduction in world food production is tightened a “yellow light” for us to be alert to the threat of food crisis.
In Indonesia the government is not done as much to increases in food production.
Prabowo said that Indonesia remained dependent for the years 2003-2004 and 2008-2009 food imports.
“Even amidst reports of the import policy to increase food production further. Waring, the FAO said in 2011 will grow real food, so we must be careful to increase domestic production,” says Prabowo.
